Press it like a pro
Everything you need to turn our DTF transfers into a soft, long-lasting print. Pick your heat source and fabric to get the right settings, then follow the four steps.
Step 1 Select your heat source
Step 2 Find your settings
- Cover the transfer with parchment or a Teflon sheet every time you press.
- Always do the finish press (Step 4). It is what makes the print last.
- Every press heats a little differently. If your sheet has its own settings, use those.
Step by step From film to finished shirt
-
01
Prep your shirt
Lay the shirt flat on the press and pre-press it for 3–5 seconds. This pulls out moisture and wrinkles so the transfer sits perfectly flat.
Pro tipLint-roll the print area first. Even a single hair trapped under the film will show in the print.
-
02
Position the transfer
Place the transfer ink-side down. For an adult front print, center it about 3–4 inches below the collar. Pockets and left-chest designs sit about 7–9 inches down from the shoulder seam.
Pro tipUse a strip of heat-resistant tape on hats, sleeves or anything that might shift when the press closes.
-
03
Press & peel
Cover with parchment and press using your settings from Step 2. Let it cool for 5–10 seconds, then peel the film slowly and evenly, low and close to the shirt.
Pro tipIf a corner starts to lift, stop. Lay the film back down, cover it and press again for a few seconds before peeling.
-
04
Finish press
Cover the design with parchment (or a thin cotton cloth) and press again for 10–15 seconds.
Don't skip thisThe second press locks the ink into the fabric, softens the feel and takes away the shine. It is the difference between a print that lasts a few washes and one that lasts for years.
Troubleshooting Common issues and quick fixes
The transfer isn't sticking or the film won't peel
- Lay the film back down and press again with a little more pressure.
- If it still lifts, raise the temperature about 10–15°F and try again.
- Let it cool a few seconds longer before peeling.
Pressing again won't hurt the transfer.
Cracking or peeling after washing
- Usually the finish press was skipped or too short. Re-press for 10–15 seconds with parchment.
- Wait 24 hours before the first wash.
- Wash inside out in cold water and skip fabric softener.
The design shifted or looks doubled
- Tape the transfer down with heat-resistant tape.
- Close the press gently and peel in one smooth direction.
- Pre-press the shirt so it lies completely flat.
The print looks shiny or feels stiff
- Do the finish press with parchment or a scrap of cotton fabric over the design.
- A slightly lower temperature with firm pressure gives a softer feel.

DTF transfers — the design is printed on transfer film so you can press it onto your own shirts, hoodies, totes and more with a heat press. Pick as many designs and sizes as you like. Pressing instructions are at the bottom of this page.
Printed shirts — we print the design right onto the shirt in the size and color you choose, and ship it ready to wear.
Care
Wash inside out in cold water and tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron directly on the print.
